Butterfly Sandal

The weather here in north Florida has been warm for this time of year (we've had several days at 70+ degrees already), so I decided to create a flirty shimmery butterfly sandal for my paper shoe collection! The Blockheads Paper Arts design team is showcasing butterfly-themed projects this month and I used butterfly stamps from the Blockheads Inspired By Nature and Nature Medallions stamp sets, background text stamp from the Blockheads Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet, and my own flip flop template for this DT inspiration project. What fun - sure wish I could make some in my size to wear! Hehehe!

The finished sandal is approximately 6" x 2.25". I cut out the sole and straps from ivory cardstock, and created the background by spritzing Fireworks! Bamboo Leaves craft ink spray mixed with water in a Mini Mister all over the pieces. I also spritzed an additional scrap piece of cardstock that the large butterfly embellishment between the straps will be stamped on. I sped up the drying process with my heat tool and then spritzed again with just the Fireworks! Bamboo Leaves craft ink spray (no water), dabbed the large spots with a wadded up paper towel and let air dry.

I stamped the text background from the Blockheads Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet with Memento Pear Tart ink at an angle down the entire sole, both straps and the scrap piece of cardstock. Using the medium size single butterfly stamp from the Blockheads Inspired By Nature stamp set and Memento Bamboo Leaves ink, I randomly stamped the butterfly all over the sole, turning it in a different direction with each impression. I then stamped the large single butterfly from the Blockheads Nature Medallions stamp set with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink on the scrap piece of cardstock that had also been spritzed and text stamped and cut it out. I embellished the straps with alternately placed dots of Bisque Liquid Pearls and green flat-back pearls, and then assembled the sandal.

I cut a second sole from the ivory cardstock and adhered it to the bottom of the embellished sole to hide the strap tabs and give it some extra support. I then cut an additional sole and heel from the Almost Leather product and adhered it to the bottom of the sandal to make it look more realistic. To complete the sandal, I adhered the large butterfly embellishment between the straps with a small piece of Kool Tak clear foam tape (roll). I'm totally lovin' this! ;)

Party Girl!

It's time to post another DT inspiration project for Paper Craft Journey Challenge - For A Girl, sponsored by the awesome KennyK Downloads! I chose the vintage and flirty Happy Hour digi for my card which I colored in shades of green and aqua to coordinate with some 6x6 papers I got several months ago that have a vintage flair. I really tried to keep this card simple with a couple die cuts, some crocheted lace and flat-back pearls. I added a little Glossy Accents to her martini glass to give it some dimension, as well as some tiny dots of white Liquid Pearls to her necklace and bracelet. The sentiment is from a little stamp set I won a couple months ago. I left the inside blank for the time being as it can be finished later on to suit just about any girly occasion calling for a party! What a fun, fun image to work with!

Butterfly In Nature Note Card

I had the day off today so I played in the scrap room for a while this afternoon and created a couple DT inspiration projects. The Blockheads Paper Arts design team is showcasing butterfly-themed projects this month and I used stamps from the Blockheads Inspired By Nature Full Sheet stamp set for this note card that features black stamping on ivory canvas with a negative (ivory stamping on black) 1.5" EcoArtBoard square. These paper-covered recycled paperboard pieces are so awesome to stamp on, and this card was super simple and lots of fun! You won't believe how easy it was! ;)

I cut a 4.24" x 5.5" card base from ivory cardstock. Using the DTP technique, I covered a 1.5" EcoArtBoard square with VersaCraft Real Black ink and set it aside to dry. I stamped the cattails and butterfly with Nature sentiment on Studio Sticky Back Natural Canvas with VersaCraft Real Black ink, then hit it with the heat tool for a few seconds to set the ink. I trimmed the stamped canvas piece and matted it on black cardstock, then adhered it to the cardbase. I did not peel the sticky back off the canvas. I went ahead and hit the ink-covered EcoArtBoard square with the heat tool for a few seconds to set the ink and ensure that it was good and dry. I re-stamped just the butterfly portion of the large stamp with VersaMagic Wheat dew drop ink, and when it was dry, adhered the square to the canvas, lining up the portions of the image. I affixed three black flat-back pearls to the lower right-hand corner.

Recipe:
  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury ivory cardstock; Marco's black cardstock
  • Studio Sticky Back Natural Canvas
  • Blockheads Inspired By Nature stamp set
  • VersaCraft Real Black ink
  • EcoArtBoard - package of assorted sizes (1.5" square)
  • VersaMagic Wheat dew drop ink
  • Black flat-back pearls
  • Memento Tuxedo Black ink

I finished the card by stamping  a matching single butterfly in Memento Tuxedo Black ink in the lower left-hand corner of the inside.

Just a note...

This is my latest Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project - a Butterfly Medallion note card created with stamps from the gorgeous Blockheads Nature Medallions stamp set. Our design team is showcasing butterfly-themed projects this month and this stamp set screamed "use me!" I had a new yummy VersaMagic dew drop color that I was jones-ing to use (Aspen Mist) so I went with a teal, cream, black and white color combo which looks really nice. The text background stamp is from the Blockheads Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet and the sentiment is from the Blockheads Verses-Special Delivery stamp set, both of which are on my list of all-time favs!

And yes, those UFOs (UnFinished Objects) that I mentioned a few weeks ago are still on my desk in my scrap room... In fact, I didn't even look at them today (out of sight, out of mind) because when I got home from work I already had this card design embedded in my brain. It worked up fairly quickly and I was thankful I had some crafty mojo goin' on! Some days I don't! ;)

I cut a 4.25" x 5.5" card base from white cardstock and set it aside. I cut the background piece from white cardstock and randomly stamped the large butterfly from the Blockheads Nature Medallions stamp set in VersaMagic Aspen Mist dew drop ink all over the cardstock. I then stamped the text background stamp from the Blockheads Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet in VersaMagic Wheat dew drop ink over top the butterflies. I matted this background on a piece of ivory canvas cardstock with a thin border showing, then again on dark teal textured cardstock with a thick border showing. I adhered some ivory seam binding horizontally across the background piece and then fashioned a bow with another piece of the seam binding and set it aside. I used the VersaMagic Aspen Mist dew drop ink, DTP, to ink a small paper rose, hit it with the heat tool for a few second and set it aside. I stamped the butterfly medallion in Memento Tuxedo Black ink on white cardstock and cut it with a Spellbinders Classic Circles die. I cut another circle from the dark teal textured cardstock using a slightly larger Classic Circles die and matted the butterfly medallion on it. I adhered the background piece to the card base and then affixed the medallion with 3-D foam squares to the front of the card, slightly to the right of center, over the seam binding. I adhered the seam binding bow to the left of the medallion and then affixed the rose to the center of the bow. I stamped the sentiment from the Blockheads Verses-Special Delivery stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black ink in the lower right portion of the background and affixed three ivory flat-back pearls to the lower left corner. That's it! Super simple with a very elegant result! ;)

I'd like to enter this note card into the following challenges:

Recipe:

best friend ever

I'm super stoked to show you my DT inspiration project for the Paper Crafting Journey Anything Goes mid-challenge post! This challenge is sponsored by the wonderful Elisabeth Bell! Anything Goes challenges are just about everybody's favorite and you still have another week, so come play with us!

We had a choice of the two images which are, by the way, up for grabs for the lucky challenge winner (hehehe) and I chose the super cute "Pati's Kisses" for my BFF card! I just love this image and went straight for the purples when I started coloring. I don't normally cut out my images but wanted to layer this one on top of the other layers so it just pops off the card! I used some of my favorite things - WOC flowers (tiny rosebuds) and one of their gorgeous applique hearts, a doily die and eyelet punch. I'm very pleased with how this turned out! She is so stinkin' cute! ;)

I'd love to enter this sweet card into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury white cardstock; medium purple shimmer textured cardstock from stash; light and dark  purple cardstock from stash
  • Paper from the GKD Parisian Garden 6x6 paper pack; deep purple/blue paper from stash

Thanks

This, my first post of 2013, is my latest Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project - a colorful thank you card with several very cool elements... alcohol inks, embossed text, stencil flowers stamped in chalk ink and a vertical sentiment framed in a window (with a pane, even!) with a delicate metal filigree butterfly perched on the side! My fingers were definitely inky with all these Blockheads stamps! But I sure wasn't complaining! ;)

I have had several UFOs (UnFinished Objects) on my desk in my scrap room for weeks now which I really need to finish. I went in there day before yesterday to see what ideas I could come up with and my mind went in the total opposite direction. You guessed it... the UFOs are still sitting there! ;)

I created a 4.25" x 5.5" ivory card base and set it aside. I placed a few drops of several different colors of alcohol inks (in rows) on my craft mat, spritzed them with water in a Mini Mister, wallered a piece of cardstock around in the puddles, and then dropped a few droplets of gold mixative down onto it. Wow -  what a gorgeous colorful background! Once dry, the droplets of gold mixative were kind of crusty so I brushed them up, down and across the entire background which left an overall subtle gold shimmer. I stamped the text background from the Blockheads Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet in Versamark ink and embossed it with fine detail Pearl embossing powder from my stash. I absolutely love the Blockheads Stencil Stamps Full Sheet, so I grabbed the two flower stamps (one large, one small) and the Pink Petunia VersaMagic dew drop, and randomly stamped them both all over the background piece.

I created the window frame out of some scrap cardboard backing from a pad of cardstock (because it was nice and thick) and two Spellbinders Long Classic Rectangles dies. I stamped the vertical "Thanks" sentiment from the Blockheads Verses-Feel Better stamp set with Jet Black StazOn ink on a piece of clear cardstock from my stash (also nice and thick), cut it with the larger of the two long rectangle dies and adhered it to the inside of the window frame with 1/8" Blockheads red liner tape. I matted the colorful background piece onto a larger piece of the scrap cardboard backing and attached it to the card base with Kool Tak clear foam dimensional strips. I attached five tiny pink gemstones to the left side of the window frame and adhered it to the front of the card. I completed the card with a filigree butterfly charm adhered to the lower left of the window with a Kool Tak clear foam pad cut in half.

  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury Ivory cardstock; scrap cardboard backing from a cardstock pad; clear cardstock from stash
  • Ranger Adirondack alcohol inks: Sunset Orange, Sunshine Yellow, Lettuce, Cranberry, Purple Twilight and Gold Mixative
