Congratulations!!

** 10/23/12 Tuesday Alchemy Winner! **

This is my latest Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project, a super simple congratulations card made using a stamp from the Blockheads Verses-Retro stamp set, a mini butterfly die with angel wings and a border die. This card took all of about 30 minutes to make, from start to finish! I absolutely love this retro verses stamp set as well as the Blockheads retro shapes stamp set - two of my favorites - and been playing around with some coaster ideas, so stay tuned!

I made a 4.25" x 5.5" card base from kraft cardstock and rounded the upper and lower right-hand corners. I stamped "Congratulations!!" (from the Blockheads Verses-Retro stamp set) with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink in the lower right corner of the card base. I cut three pearl lace borders from magenta, teal and olive cardstock and adhered them together in a staggered fashion with Blockheads 1/8" red liner tape. I adhered a narrow strip of the kraft cardstock to the top of the magenta cardstock, lining up the left edge, and adhered the border unit to the left side of the card base. I had some rub-on stitches in my stash so I applied a section of the olive green with white stitching between the left edge of the card and the scalloped border. I die-cut three mini butterflies from the olive green cardstock along with three sets of angel wings from the teal cardstock and adhered them to the narrow strip of the kraft cardstock on the border. I adhered four small light brown flat-back pearls above, between and below the mini butterflies. I die-cut one additional butterfly from the magenta cardstock along with an angel wing from the teal cardstock and adhered it to the right of the border just above the sentiment.

It's amazing that just one sentiment stamp from this awesome Blockheads Verses-Retro stamp set and a few die cuts created such a simple yet beautiful card! I just love it! I wish the colors were as vivid in the photo as they are in real life - I couldn't get the right lighting for some reason this afternoon; it was either too bright or not bright enough!

I'd love to enter this Congrats card into the following challenges:

Imagination

It's time to post another DT inspiration project for this week's Dutch Dare Card Challenge #187 - Buttons and Bows, sponsored by the wonderful Crafty Sentiments Designs! I chose the adorable "Flying My Kite" digi with a wonderful quote from Lauren Bacall stamped on the inside - "Imagination is the highest kite one can fly." I love this sentiment from the Taylored Expressions "In The Park" stamp set. I guess most people associate kite flying with Spring but I thought this sweet image screamed Fall for some reason! You think maybe I have Fall Fever? ;) The temps here in north Florida have been gradually dropping but the butterflies are still out in full force. We really enjoy sitting out in our screened porch watching them flutter by!

I would love to enter this sweet inspirational card into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury White cardstock; yellow and orange cardstock from stash
  • Orange patterned paper from the Echo Park 6x6 "A Walk In The Park" paper pack

  • Inside sentiment from the Taylored Expressions "In The Park" stamp set
  • Memento Rich Cocoa ink
  • Copics: E33/99, Y11/17, YR04, R20/24, G05

Maple Leaves Thank You

I wasn't home yesterday so I spent a good part of today doing laundry, reorganizing the utility closet and making a huge pot of yummy spaghetti sauce (with italian sausage, pepperoni, ground beef and black olives). I did find a few minutes, however, to scoot into the scrap room and make a Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project for our Precious Metals Leafing Technique Challenge, hosted by design team mate, Leigh Snaith-Brunton. Come play with us! You'll be amazed at how fun and easy leafing is! I used the gorgeous Blockheads Maple Leaves stamp which was just perfect for this technique! Visit the Blockheads Precious Metals Leafing technique page to check out Leigh's tutorial. To take our challenge the traditional way via your blog, create your own project, create a blog post and link back to the Precious Metals Leafing Technique Challenge blog post by October 21st for a chance to win a $25 Blockheads gift certificate! The winner will be selected by our design team.

It's not a  requirement, but if you want to include the code snippet to make it a blog hop and show thumbnails of all participants' projects, use this link code:

<!-- end InLinkz script -->

There's another way to take our challenge if you don't have a blog, and that is via our Facebook group! You'll need to join if you're not already a member, then all you need to do is post an image of your project on the group's wall by October 21st. The Facebook winner will get to pick out any 4" x 5" set of Blockheads stamps on cling cushion, and there are some awesome stamps to choose from!

I created a 4.25" x 5.5" card base and set it aside. I stamped the Maple Leaves onto a piece of deep burgundy cardstock with the Tsukineko Essential Glue Pad. [It had been a while since I used the Glue Pad, so I applied some glue refill to the pad before starting.] I carefully pressed a gold leafing sheet onto the stamped image and gently rubbed it vertically and horizontally. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then removed the sheet and brushed the excess leafing off the image with a stencil brush. I trimmed the image and matted it on gold foil cardstock and again on ivory cardstock. I cut a larger piece of the burgundy cardstock, matted it on gold foil cardstock and adhered it to the card base. I adhered the matted stamped image piece onto the front (to the left of center) and applied five ivory flat-back pearls on the right of the focal image. I stamped a vertical "Thanks" sentiment (from the Blockheads Verses-Feel Better stamp set) on the lower right of the inside with Memento Rhubarb Stalk ink, leaving room to write a special thank you note.

Recipe:
  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury Ivory cardstock; Bazzill Basics Gold Foil cardstock; deep burgundy cardstock from stash
  • Blockheads Maple Leaves stamp
  • Tsukineko Essential Glue Pad
  • Mona Lisa Gold Leafing Sheets
  • Blockheads Verses-Feel Better stamp set
  • Memento Rhubarb Stalk ink
  • Ivory flat-back pearls

The cardstock in my photo appears purple, but it really is burgundy and compliments the Memento Rhubarb Stalk ink (on the inside) very well!

Here's a peek at the inside, done very simply...

Birthday Cupcake

My granddaughter, Gigi, will turn nine on Monday and her party is tomorrow afternoon. I just don't know where the time has gone... it seems like she was born just yesterday! I was so excited when I made her birthday party invitations several weeks ago and even more excited to finish her birthday cupcake - a gift card holder decorated with paper flowers and a girly sentiment! Thanks so much to Julie P for the wonderful tutorial! Gigi's favorite color is blue and she wanted a pink birthday party, so I covered the cupcake with various shades of blue and pink flowers, and made a pink vertical belly band to hold the gift card. My favorite color is green, so I incorporated a little bit of "Grammy" into it by using the green floral paper for the wrapper. This was so much fun and I can't wait to make more! :D

I'd love to enter my Birthday Cupcake gift card holder into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury Ivory cardstock; pink and green floral cardstock from stash; light pink textured cardstock from stash
  • 3" styrofoam ball, cut in half; three narrow strips of dimensional foam tape
  • Lili of the Valley Circular Sentiments
  • Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
  • Spellbinders Classic Circles and Lacey Circles dies
  • Sentiment from the Blockheads Verses-Retro stamp set
  • Wild Orchid Crafts flowers
  • Light pink satin double face ribbon
  • White flat-back pearl

Gift Ideas: Seashell Coasters & Thank You Card

Here I am... back as promised with more of these addictive little coasters! Although I wound up doing a few other things around the house today, I did manage to get another Blockheads DT inspiration project done - a set of four coasters with a matching Thank You card - as part of our gift ideas showcase. I used four large round pulpboard coasters and the beautiful seashell stamps from the Blockheads Seashells w/ Rectangle Frame stamp set. These stamps are just gorgeous!

I created a 4.5" square card base for the Thank You card and set it aside. I cut a 4" square of white cardstock and got out four Blockheads Large Round Coaster blanks and lined up all five pieces. I placed all four seashell stamps from the Blockheads Seashells w/ Rectangle Frame stamp set on a large acrylic block and stamped the five pieces with VersaMagic Dew Drop Wheat ink. I cleaned the stamps and shadow stamped a second time with VersaCraft Real Black ink to create an illusion of dimension. I heat set the ink on the coasters with my heat tool and set them aside. I matted the stamped cardstock square onto a piece of wheat cardstock and then onto a piece of black cardstock, then adhered the unit to the card base. I stamped the "Thank You" sentiment from the Blockheads Verses-Retro stamp set in the lower  left corner with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I finished the card with three black gemstones in the upper right corner.

I would like to enter my seashell coasters with matching Thank You card into the following challenges:

Gift Ideas: Stencil Flower Note Cards & Coasters

My latest Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project is a set of four simple inspirational note cards with matching coasters. You know me... I've been dubbed the "Note Card Queen", and Blockheads carries blank pulpboard coasters to stamp on, so it didn't take long for me to come up with some gift ideas! Plus I've fallen madly in love with the Blockheads Stencil Stamps Full Sheet stamp set. OMG - the stamps in this set are absolutely gorgeous! My design teammates showcased quite a few gift ideas during the month of September but unfortunately life got in the way and I wasn't able to play. But work is closed today in observance of Columbus Day and my head is reeling with more ideas, so stay tuned - I hope to have more goodies to show you today! ;)

I created four white 4.5" square card bases and set them aside. I then cut four 4" squares of white cardstock and got out four Blockheads Large Square Coaster blanks and lined all eight of them up. Using the solid background stamp from the Blockheads Stencil Stamps Full Sheet stamp set, I stamped the background with VersaCraft Maize ink on all eight surfaces. I then stamped the large stenciled flower from this set with VersaMagic Dew Drop Night Sky ink in the lower right corner of the stamped background on each of the eight surfaces. I stamped the large sentiments "Believe", "Wish", "Dream" and "Imagine" from the Blockheads Verses-Full Sheet stamp set with VersaMagic Dew Drop Pumpkin Spice ink in the upper left corner of the stamped backgrounds (one sentiment per card and matching coaster). I then inked the edges of all eight pieces with the same Pumpkin Spice chalk ink.

I heat set the ink on the coasters with my heat tool and set them aside. I then matted each of the four stamped squares onto navy blue cardstock and adhered each to the card bases. I finished the inside of the cards by stamping the small stenciled flower from this same Blockheads Stencil Stamps Full Sheet stamp set with VersaMagic Dew Drop Night Sky ink in the lower left corner.

I would like to enter my note cards and matching coasters into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Blockheads Large Square Coaster blanks
  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury white cardstock; navy blue cardstock from stash
  • Blockheads Stencil Stamps Full Sheet stamp set
  • Blockheads Verses-Full Sheet stamp set
  • VersaCraft Maize ink
  • VersaMagic Dew Drop Night Sky ink
  • VersaMagic Dew Drop Pumpkin Spice ink
