Always Dress For Excess

It's time to post a DT inspiration project for this week's Dutch Dare Card Challenge DDCC #179 - Bling It On, sponsored by Di's Digi Downloads! Come play with us! We were not given any digis to play with so that means we were free to use whatever we want. I chose Krista Smith's adorable Saturated Canary digi image "Violet A Ragamuffin." What a fun image this is, and I had a great time creating this sweet card done primarily in purple, green, pink and yellow. Bling, to me, is shimmery, shiny and flashy, so I used some glitter cardstock, mirror cardstock, pearl flourish and large gemstones. I sprayed the sentiment oval with a shimmery Perfect Pearls Mist, and also used a Sakura Stardust pen on the flower in her hair and her skirt but the camera didn't pick this up too well.

I'd like to enter "Always Dress For Excess" into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury white cardstock; green corrugated cardstock; pink floral mirror cardstock
  • Doodlebug Hello Spring 6x6 papers
  • Saturated Canary "Violet A Ragamuffin" digital image
  • Copics: E000/00/33/99, R20/21/23/25, B93, YG11/13/17, V12/15/17, Y15/17/21
  • Sakura Stardust pen
  • Spellbinders Classic Ovals, Scalloped Ovals, Parisian Motifs and Fanciful Flight dies
  • Tim Holtz Alterations Filmstrip Frames die

Flower Garden Mini Book

I played for a little while in the scrap room this weekend and created a very colorful Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project - another mini book for the current Blockheads Technique Challenge - Easy Mini Books hosted by our design teammate, Trisha Neal. You still have time to come play with us! These mini books are so much fun! Visit the Blockheads 2 Simple Book Binding techniques page to check out Trisha's tutorial. She is definitely the Mini Book Queen! ;)

Scroll down for individual photos of the pages in my Flower Garden mini book.

I used quite a few Blockheads stamp sets - Flowers Full Sheet, Honey Bees ATC Set, Grunge It Up, Flowers: Daisies, Inspired by Nature, Floral Ornaments Full Sheet and Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet - as well as Artistic Outpost's Old Grist Mill stamp set. I created the cover from a left-over piece of re-purposed cardboard from the back of a mat stack, stamped a flowers background on the front and back with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink, and adhered a piece of brown suede paper to the spine. I cut two 6" x 3" panels and scored each at 3" to make a 3" square book and then decorated all four pages, front and back, on each panel. I stamped the main image on each page and masked it with JudiKins Eclipse Mask Tape, then randomly stamped a curly que from the Grunge It Up stamp set with VersaMagic Wheat dew drop ink all over each page being sure to go off the edges. Next, I stamped text on each page with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink. I lifted the Eclipse Mask Tape off each page and colored the images with Crayola colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits with blending stumps to blend the colors. I stamped various sentiments and words from several of the Blockheads stamp sets on kraft cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and affixed them to the pages. I die cut a frame for one of the images and decorated it with tiny red gemstones. I found a small purple butterfly in my stash that I used on one of the pages. I punched holes 3/4" inward from the top and bottom edges of the cover and both scored panels, and affixed the panels separately to the cover so I'd have four pieces of twine to tie. I had some handmade paper beads in my stash that I had made from some green iridescent paper a while back, and they were perfect to put on the ends of the twine! I decorated the front with "Flower Garden" stamped into faux leather and a daisy flower stamped onto Shrinky Dink plastic (colored with yellow and orange Sharpie markers), heated and made into a charm.

I'd like to enter my Flower Garden Mini Book into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Light green and kraft cardstock from stash; re-purposed piece of cardboard from back of a mat stack
  • JudiKins Eclipse Mask Tape
  • Blockheads stamp sets - Flowers Full Sheet, Honey Bees ATC Set, Grunge It Up, Flowers: Daisies, Inspired by Nature, Floral Ornaments Full Sheet and Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet
  • Artistic Outpost's Old Grist Mill stamp set
  • VersaMagic Wheat dew drop ink
  • Memento Bamboo Leaves ink and Tuxedo Black ink
  • Crayola colored pencils; odorless mineral spirits; blending stumps
  • Spellbinders Classic Squares and Postage Stamps dies
  • Comotion Almost Leather; Shrinky Dink plastic
  • Twine; tiny red gemstones; handmade paper beads; small purple butterfly from stash

The Stamping Boutique is turning 3!

Happy 3rd birthday to The Stamping Boutique! Plan to join in the fun and festivities this evening from 8-10 pm EST at The Crafter's Cafe! There are lots of games and several challenges planned for the birthday party - a 3D challenge, a birthday card challenge and a color theme challenge using The Stamping Boutique store colors as inspiration.

I created a birthday card for The Stamping Boutique using one of Tracey's early "Cynthia" digis - this one is called "Cynthia on birthday cake." What an adorable image! I used some really fun stuff on this card - music digital paper background to represent the "happy birthday" song, a ticket sentiment, some snow crystals to represent icing and a gorgeous WOC flower cluster. I had a ball! ;)

Recipe:

  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury ivory cardstock; two shades aqua cardstock
  • Tracey Malnofski's "Cynthia on birthday cake" digital image
  • Copics: E000/29/35, Y17, YR15, BG000/18/45, R20/22/32
  • Sakura Stardust pen
  • Blockheads Paper Arts music digital paper
  • Spellbinders Classic Circles and Scalloped Circles dies
  • Memory Box Pearl Lace die
  • Sweet N Sassy Ticket Sentiments stamp set
  • Memento Tuxedo Black ink
  • Blockheads Micro Marbles Snow Crystals
  • Wild Orchid Crafts flowers and leaf
  • EK Success Adhesive Tag paired with a Stampendous '3' circle sticker
  • Teal ribbon; tiny pink gemstones; lemon sherbet flat-back pearls

I combined the birthday card challenge with the color theme challenge, so TSB store colors were used as inspiration.

Vintage Travel Mini Book

**8/10/12 - In the Spotlight at Sweet Stampin!**

I've had some fun playing this weekend creating a Blockheads DT inspiration project - a mini book for the current Blockheads Technique Challenge - Easy Mini Books hosted by design teammate, Trisha Neal. Come play with us! I promise you'll have just as much fun as I did! ;)

Scroll way down for individual photos of the pages in my Vintage Travel Mini Book.

There are a number of different ways to bind your mini book (I used adhesive) but visit the Blockheads 2 Simple Book Binding techniques page to check out Trisha's tutorial. To take our challenge the traditional way via your blog, create your own project, create a blog post and link back to the Blockheads Technique Challenge - Easy Mini Books blog post by August 21st for a chance to win a $25 Blockheads gift certificate! The winner will be selected by our design team.

It's not a  requirement, but if you want to include the code snippet to make it a blog hop and show thumbnails of all participants' projects, use this link code:
<!-- start InLinkz script -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.inlinkz.com/cs.php?id=175959"></script>
<!-- end InLinkz script -->

[To enter this code after composing your post, switch to HTML editing mode by clicking the HTML button on the top left of your post, paste the code immediately following the HTML code already created by Blogger and click the Compose button again.]

Note: If you use WordPress, which won't allow script tags, use this code:
<!--start InLinkz script -->
<a href="http://www.inlinkz.com/wpview.php?id=175959"><img style="border:0px"
src="http://www.inlinkz.com/wplmg.php?id=175959"></a>
<!-- end InLinkz script -->

There's another way to take our challenge if you don't have a blog, and that is via our Facebook group! You'll need to join if you're not already a member, then all you need to do is post an image of your project on the group's wall by August 21st. The Facebook winner will get to pick out any 4" x 5" set of Blockheads stamps on cling cushion, and there are some awesome stamps to choose from!

I cut two 12" x 4" panels and scored each in four 3" sections and then 1" inward on one of the long edges. I folded the 1" section upward to create the pockets and then made accordion folds (valley-mountain-valley) to shape the pages of the book. The ends of each panel were later adhered together long-wise to create all the pages. I stamped all the pages prior to putting it together, using several Blockheads stamp sets - Vintage Travel, Backgrounds For All Occasions, Grunge It Up and Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet - for the pages and the tags which are all heavily distressed. Each pocket is decorated with a stamped piece of cardstock or a piece of crocheted lace (one left ivory colored and the other died with walnut ink). I did a little paper piecing on a few of the tags with kraft and two shades of blue cardstock to give a few of them a splash of color and to match the blue postage stamp. I punched holes in the tops of the tags with my Crop-a-dile Big Bite but did not put any ribbon or twine in them. I made the cover out of a re-purposed piece of cardboard from the back of a mat stack. I masked the post card stamp on the front cover and brushed some linen paint on a wide foam applicator across the entire front cover with one swipe, and when that dried, I stamped the background on the front and back.

I'd like to enter my Vintage Travel Mini Book into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Light weight cream cardstock from stash; re-purposed piece of cardboard from back of a mat stack
  • Folk art paint (linen); wide foam applicator
  • JudiKins Eclipse Mask Tape
  • Blockhead stamp sets - Vintage Travel, Backgrounds For All Occasions, Grunge It Up and Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet
  • Memento Rich Cocoa and Tuxedo Black ink
  • Ranger Walnut Stain distress ink
  • VersaMagic Wheat dew drop ink
  • Versamark; bronze embossing powder
  • Tsukineko spray walnut ink
  • 1/8" Blockheads Red Liner Tape
  • Joann's ivory crocheted lace
